BGA Committee: Call for Nominations 2015

In accordance with the Statutes and traditions of the Association, the Committee shall include nine members elected by members of the British Geotechnical Association by postal ballot.

In accordance with the Statutes and traditions of the Association, the Committee shall include nine members elected by members of the British Geotechnical Association by postal ballot.

Clause 5 of the Statutes states, “The period of office of Committee members shall be 3 years unless elected Chairman or Vice-Chairman or appointed to fill a special role or casual vacancy”.

Nominations are invited for three vacancies on the Committee. These should be supported by at least three members of the Association and sent together with the written consent of the candidate to the Secretary by 12 noon on 13 April 2015. A short CV or personal statement of about 1/3 of one A4 page (~300 words) should be sent with the nomination. If a ballot is required, this note will be included with the ballot paper.

The vacancies are created by retiring Committee Members:
Dr S Hardy – London
Mr P Rutty – Surrey
Prof M Winter – West Lothian

If more than three persons are nominated, a ballot will be held and the result will be declared at the Annual General Meeting on 17 June 2015.

The BGA normally expects that the expenses of Committee members will be funded by the member or their employer, but, in exceptional circumstances, the Association will contribute towards reasonable travelling and subsistence expenses within the UK (based on the most economic form of transport) where a committee member is unable to obtain such expenses from his or her employer or academic institution.

The essential items of information that a nomination must contain are the name, BGA membership number, affiliation and contact details of the candidate and confirmation of support from three BGA members, who must also supply their membership number and email address. The CV or statement should not be longer than about 300 words.

Details of the duties of Committee members can be obtained from the Honorary Secretary, Neil Smith, at neilsmith@appliedgeotechnical.co.uk
