Call for abstracts for the 12th International Conference on Bearing Capacity of Roads, Railways, and Airfields (BCRRA 2026)
Abstracts are invited for the 12th International Conference on Bearing Capacity of Roads, Railways, and Airfields (BCRRA 2026), which will take place in Ljubljana, Slovenia, from June 22 to 24, 2026.
The deadline for submissions is 9 June 2025.
BCRRA 2026 marks the twelfth edition in this prestigious series of events, held every four years. The conference series began in 1982 with the first event organized in Trondheim, Norway. Initially known as the Bearing Capacity of Roads and Airfields (BCRA), the conference expanded its scope in 1997 during its sixth edition in Lisbon to include railway infrastructure, recognizing its critical role in global transportation networks.

BCRRA is renowned for its in-depth academic discussions and the dissemination of new findings and technical solutions, which have often led to the development of new standards and best practices. The conference focuses on the load-bearing capacity and the latest advancements in transportation infrastructure, including roads, railways, and airports. It covers a broad range of topics related to the design, construction, maintenance, and condition assessment of pavements, rail tracks, and airfields.
Key themes include the behaviour and performance of subgrade soils, unbound granular materials, asphalt, concrete, and geotechnical aspects, alongside innovative methods for structural design. Sustainable practices such as the use of recycled materials, intelligent construction technologies, and big data applications are also highlighted. Special attention is given to climate resilience and frost-affected regions. As part of the advanced techniques for traffic loading assessment and performance prediction, two sessions will be dedicated to the European Falling Weight Deflectometer Users Group (EU FWD UG) and Deflection at Road Traffic Speed (DaRTS) technologies, which will cover the latest methods for evaluating and monitoring traffic loading.

Submission and Review Process:
All submissions will undergo a two-stage double-blind peer review to ensure the highest level of academic and professional quality.
Two options are available for abstract submission:
- Full Paper (3-8 pages): For those wishing to present comprehensive research findings and detailed analyses. The Conference Proceedings will be published in the open-access journal Transportation Research Procedia – Elsevier, providing significant visibility and added value for researchers and academics.
- Extended Abstract (2–3 pages): For those wishing to provide an overview of their work, innovative solutions, or practical experiences. The proceedings will be published by the conference organizer.
