Linking fabric, structure and soil behaviour: Recent advancements

A half day seminar at Imperial College London

Imperial College London is holding a half day seminar on the subject of Linking fabric, structure and soil behaviour: Recent advancements, held at Imperial College London and chaired by Prof. Lidija Zdravkovic.

The event is supported by the British Geotechnical Association and ISSMGE Technical Committees: TC 105 Geo-Mechanics from Micro to Macro TC101 Laboratory Testing.

The seminar will run from 1:00-4:30pm on the 21st March 2018, followed by the Rankine lecture at 5:30pm. Registration is not required and all are welcome to attend.

The event will be divided into 2 sessions with a 30 minute coffee break between sessions.

  • Session 1: Fabric at micro and macro scales
    • Quantifying fabric and considering its effects: Prof. Catherine O'Sullivan
    • Fabric sensitive soil mechanics: Dr. Antonio Carraro
    • How well can we measure the evolution of sand micro-structure: Prof. Cino Viggiani
  • Session 2: Structure and soil behaviour
    • Soil structure Enduring memory: Prof. J. Carlos Santamarina
    • Structure in soils of different geological origins: Prof. Matthew Coop
    • Soil structure evolution and contribution in the context of bulk cargo shipping: Dr. Chris Menkiti
