Synopsis

Artificial Ground Freezing has been successfully applied on many ground engineering and tunnelling projects all over the world in the last few decades. It is recognized as a reliable and environment friendly method of ground improvement to enable the save excavation and construction of underground structures. The growing demand to improve urban public transport and infrastructure has even increased the need to work in difficult ground condition under complex existing structures.

The presentation will give an historic overview and will explain the working principle of ground freezing. Furthermore, ground investigation, design and execution steps are shown. Finally, case studies of recent international freezing projects will be presented.

Speaker Biography

Christian Perl is a Senior Project Manager and the groupwide leading specialist for ground freezing at Züblin Ground Engineering and with 20 years’ experience in the construction industry and 15 years in ground freezing techniques. Christian is a Civil Engineer who has worked on several complex inner city infrastructure projects for extremely demanding Clients and has been responsible for design management, procurement, planning, package management, on site delivery and quality management, all whilst ensuring the high levels of health and safety are upheld.
