association for geotechnical engineers in the United Kingdom.

BGA Fleming Award Competition 2016 – Call for Submissions

The Fleming Award is a prestigious prize awarded annually by the BGA to commemorate the life and work of Dr Ken Fleming and to recognise excellence in the practical application of geotechnics in a project or a part of a project, with a prize donated by Cementation Skanska. The 2016 Fleming Award Meeting will be held at the ICE, One Great George Street, London on 7 December 2016.

The BGA invites submissions from project teams that can that demonstrate excellence in geotechnical design and construction, with an emphasis on innovation and teamwork, on geotechnical projects that have been substantially completed within the two years prior to the award date of December 2016.

Submissions should be made to (and further information can be obtained from) the BGA: email: bga@britishgeotech.org.uk. The award criteria are available here. Submissions should be made by 14th October 2016.

On the Awards evening in December, the shortlisted Project Teams will make presentations, and a judging panel will assess which team most demonstrates excellence in geotechnical design & construction.

While the judges reach their decision, there will be a short keynote presentation by Dr Tony O’Brien of Mott MacDonald on Geotechnical Characterisation – Recent Developments and Applications’. For further details see the meetings page.
