The British Geotechnical Association (BGA) is the principal association for geotechnical engineers in the UK.
BGA is one of several ‘nominating organisations’ and this allows us representation on relevant British Standards Institute committees.
This representation is additional to bodies such as the Institution of Civil Engineers, Federation of Piling Specialists and the Association of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Specialists, which might also provide a route for geotechnical engineers to influence new and revised standards. Representation on BSI committees allows BGA to become aware of new and changing standards at an early stage, and to participate in and influence their development. As more and more of our standards today emanate from Europe we also have the opportunity to join CEN committees and play a more influential role. If you are interested in finding out how to get involved in this aspect of our work please get in touch via email bga@britishgeotech.org.uk.
