Awards Presented at BGA Annual General Meeting June 2023

The BGA presented awards at its Annual General Meeting during its Annual Conference on 21 June 2023. Details of the Skempton Medal presentation can be found HERE.

BGA Medal

The paper authors received the 2022 BGA Medal from BGA Vice Chair Dr Andrew Ridley. The winning paper is “Advanced in situ and laboratory characterisation of the ALPACA chalk research site” by Ken Vinck, Tingfa Liu, Richard Jardine, Stavroula Kontoe, Reza Ahmadi-Naghadeh, Roísín Buckley, Bryon Byrne, James Lawrence, Ross McAdam and Fabian Schranzpublished in Géotechnique. BGA Case Histories Award

Njemile Faustin and Robert Mair received the 2022 BGA Case Histories Award from BGA Vice Chair Dr Andrew Ridley. The winning paper is “Case studies of circular shaft construction in London” by Njemile Faustin, Mohammed Elshafie and Robert Mair published in Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers – Geotechnical Engineering. Best paper at the Young Geotechnical Engineers Seminar (YGES)

Emma McConnell received the award for the best paper at the 2022 YGES from BGA Vice Chair Dr Andrew Ridley. Emma is studying for a PhD at Newcastle University where she is undertaking research into Climate Impacts on Slope Stability. She has an MSc in Civil Engineering with Geotechnical Engineering and Project Management and a 1st Class BSc in Earth Sciences from the University of Strathclyde.
