EG50 2017 – Engineering Geology 50 Conference – 5th-7th July 2017, Portsmouth

Past event: Please note this event information is displayed for informational purposes only.

Introduction

The organising committee would like to invite you to join us at a conference to celebrate 50 years of Engineering Geology and Geotechnics provision at the University of Portsmouth and 50 years of the Quarterly Journal of Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology.

Although primarily celebratory, reflecting on the contributions made by the University and this important scientific journal to the development of the engineering geology and geotechnics profession in the UK and far beyond, the conference will also consider how the profession and academia will change in future years and how practicing engineers can inform and control this change. An important aspect of this is the relevance of Eurocode 7 to the profession. A day of talks from leading professionals and academics will consider the role of EC7 in the rock engineering design process and will offer an important opportunity for consultants, contractors and academics to contribute to the ongoing revision of this important design code.

We believe that the conference will present a multitude of opportunities for all parts of the industry (including consultants, contractors and academics) and at all career stages to attend and to contribute to discussions.

The conference will take place in the historic city of Portsmouth, ideally placed on the south-coast and only a short distance away from London, with the conference dinner held on the gun deck of HMS Warrior which should be a memorable event. An optional field trip to the Isle of Wight will take place on the 8 July, led by Professor Andy Gale and Professor Eddie Bromhead.

We look forward to welcoming you to Portsmouth – one of Europe’s truly great island cities – in July 2017.
