Introduction

An early-career webinar covering the United Kingdom and France will be hosted by BGA ECG, BTSYM, CFMS Jeunes, and AFTES Jeunes! Young engineers from the HS2 project and the Grand Paris Express project will present two case studies, exploring practices and challenges in different countries.

UK Presentation: Design and construction of Canterbury vent shaft – HS2

Speaker: Joao Ferreira (Typsa)

Abstract: Canterbury Works Headhouse and ventilation shaft serves the Euston Tunnels for both ventilation and emergency access. This presentation focuses on the construction of the shaft and tunnels using underpinned segments, sprayed concrete lining, reinforced concrete collars and cast in-situ secondary lining. The presentation will be delivered by members of the construction and design team and will focus on the design and construction of the primary and secondary lining featuring geotechnical challenges, site setup, and innovations.

 

French Presentation: Swelling soil problematics in the Grand Paris Express project
