Synopsis

The construction of the High Speed Two (HS2) railway between
London and Birmingham crosses a series of geological strata from the Paleogene
through to Carboniferous Periods, overlain by the effects and deposits of the
Quaternary. The project includes the largest ground investigation ever
undertaken in the UK and several large-scale trials including a full-scale
Earthworks Experimental Trial Site at Boddington in central England. This joint
industry-academia presentation will describe the development of this Earthworks
Experiment encompassing the planning and execution of the trial, the management
of the ground related data and how this data is being used in Academia to
provide a lasting legacy for the wider geotechnical community.
