Speakers: Amy Gooding, John Imrie & Antonia Gaskell and Jim Martin.

Past event: Please note this event information is displayed for informational purposes only.

Introduction

This event will be held online via Zoom. The access link is provided at the bottom of this page.

Synopsis

Three shorter presentations from local companies or about local projects, designed to allow smaller projects to be showcased or updates to be given from larger local schemes. Each presentation will last 15-20 minutes, followed by 5 minutes of questions from the audience. The AGM will follow the presentations.

Amy Gooding (Satsense) – “How can InSAR help identify and monitor geotechnical hazards”

The region of Yorkshire is prone to multiple geotechnical hazards due its underlying bedrock geology and quaternary history. In this presentation we explore how Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) can be applied to identify displacements brought about by natural and man-made phenomena, including sinkholes and slope stability issues.

John Imrie & Antonia Gaskell (WSP) – “Regent Street Flyover, Leeds – Geotechnical Update”

The presentation will provide a summary of the design and an update from the construction of new piled foundations and the re-use of existing piles as part of a new inner city flyover in Leeds.

Jim Martin (formerly of Byland Engineering) – “A6025 Park Road & Brighouse Road Stabilisations”

The A6025 Park Road suffered a major landslip during Storm Ciara in February 2020, which required the complete closure of this busy A Road. Then, 12 months later the A6025 at Brighouse (approx. 2 miles away) suffered a similar but less severe landslip which required a partial road closure. This presentation will discuss the design development and construction of the two remedial works schemes which have recently been completed. Whilst the two schemes have some similarities, there were several differences in the piling and geotechnical works undertaken and the challenges overcome.
