Synopsis

The YGG Presentation Competition for 2023 will see six young geotechnical engineers present on a topic dealing with the engineering behaviour of the ground.

Bethany Martin, Senior Engineer at CGL – “Coal mining assessment Walkden; Manchester”

Ikram Sonara, Graduate Civil Engineer at Mott MacDonald – “Pile Design and Construction; Apperley Bridge”

Chris Walker, PhD student at University of Leeds – “Impact of climate change on transport infrastructure with reference to geostructures”

Jordan Sinnott, Geotechnical Engineer at Systra – “Transpennine Route Upgrade: OLE foundation design”

Thomas Woolley, Engineer at CGL – Verification works at British Library; Thorpe Arch”

Fatemeh Ardakani, Senior Engineer at Systra – “Optimisation of ground improvement (PVD) for high-speed rail earthworks using 3D geological modelling, geo-data and machine learning led digital intelligence”

Guest speaker – Alan Willoner, Technical Principal at Mott MacDonald – “Design and construction of remedial rail slab transition at Medge Hall”
