IGS UK Chapter Webinar on Design Using Geosynthetics

ISO TR18228 – Design Using Geosynthetics : What do the 10 parts mean? IGS Webinar: 18:00 Tuesday 11 March 2025, presented by Derek Smith

ISO TC221 WG6 has been developing a ten-part Technical Report (ISO TR18228, Design Using Geosynthetics) that provides guidance (not standardisation) for designs using geosynthetics for soils and below ground structures in contact with natural soils, fills and asphalts. At the time of writing this, nine of the ten part series have been published and it is hoped that by the time of the presentation the final part will have been published.

Derek Smith of Coffey Geotechnics will present details of what the ten-part series of documents contain, looking in particular at some of the details provided in each of the documents and what these mean in practice. He will speculate on what the future holds for the further development of the documents and he will also provide information on what ISO TC221 WG6 is now planning to focus its attention on
