Updating the CIRIA Guidance C580 for the design of embedded retaining walls

7th October at 6.30pm at 8 Fitzroy Street, London W1T 4BQ

by Stuart Hardy & Lauren Doughty of Ove Arup and Partners Limited

The BGA are pleased to invite you to the next ECG event to be held at Arup’s central London office. The presentation will cover the publication of the update to the C580 document “Embedded retaining wall – guidance for economic design”. Since its publication in 2003, C580 has become one of CIRIA’s best-selling guidance documents finding a readership and application far beyond the UK.

Since 2003, the Eurocodes have been published and made mandatory for any publicly funded project. There have also been a number of changes in construction practice and legislation that have an effect on the design of embedded retaining walls. The need for an update was therefore clear, but how to go about updating such a highly respected and definitive document?

The presentation will give the background to the project, the results of an industry wide survey as well as a discussion on some of the key decisions that have to be made when designing embedded retaining walls in accordance with Eurocodes. Arup are sponsoring a networking drink to follow.
