The latest news from the BGA.
Since 1982 a bronze medal and a cash prize have been awarded annually by the ISRM for an outstanding doctoral thesis in rock
mechanics or rock engineering, to honour the memory of Past President Manuel Rocha. An invitation is now being extended to the whole Rock Mechanics community, for nomination for the Rocha Medal 2017.
Each nomination shall conform to the ISRM By Law No 7, namely as concerns Articles 2 and 3, and shall be received by the ISRM Secretary-General not later than 31 December 2015.
The BGA relies on the work of volunteers and the committee needs the help of more BGA members. Each year three members are elected to serve on the executive committee for three years and the search is on for candidates who fit the description of "enthusiastic people who are keen to contribute to our vibrant association" to join in 2015.
On Monday 9th February the BGA Early Career Group will be hosting a meeting to discuss the new changes to Initial Professional Development and provide guidance for geotechnical engineers and engineering geologists on how to approach the professional review. Mike Rogers (Professional Development Manager, ICE) and David Beadman – (Director, Byrne Looby Partners), both of whom are current reviewers will provide their advice.
